Jobs and Job creators
Job creation in 2011 stacks up favorably to job creation since 2001. From ThinkProgress:
- Since the last SOTU, the economy has created 1.9 million private sector jobs.
- Private sector job creation under Obama in 2011 was larger than seven out of the eight years Bush was president.

Just sayin'
Warren Buffett on taxes and job creation:
Seems that as long as the discussion is diverted by illogical assumptions, the problem will continue.
"I have worked with investors for 60 years and I have yet to see anyone — not even when capital gains rates were 39.9 percent in 1976-77 — shy away from a sensible investment because of the tax rate on the potential gain. People invest to make money, and potential taxes have never scared them off. And to those who argue that higher rates hurt job creation, I would note that a net of nearly 40 million jobs were added between 1980 and 2000. You know what’s happened since then: lower tax rates and far lower job creation."

Economy up - unemployment, Dow down
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the July jobs report today. Private sector employment increased by 154,000 jobs, but that gain was partially offset by continuing loss of public sector jobs. Unemployment declined marginally to 9.1%. Dow drops 500, worst day since 2008 financial crisis.

More GM jobs created
Only the political crazies still complain about saving our domestic auto companies being a bad idea. GM is creating jobs again, and that is indisputably a good thing.

12 Million new jobs?
OK, its Andy Stern, but at least he's thinking big about jobs. The job sharing idea is real intriguing, it appears to have worked in Germany earlier this year, and it has support from the left and the right.

Jobs report a little BTE
The August unemployment situation (9.6%) is little changed from the previous month (9.5%), but the expectations game was for the figures to be worse. The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its August unemployment report today. It shows a net loss of 54,000 jobs, the loss resulting from the discontinuation of 114,000 temporary census jobs which offset stronger than expected private sector increases (67,000).

Nummi reopens
Toyota has announced a joint venture with Tesla to reopen NUMMI and hire 1000 workers. While this does not reinstate the facility to its pre-closure size, it is welcome news in recession ravaged California. Previous posts about the NUMMI closure are here and here.
